Getting Here and Getting Around
Driving to New Paltz? It’s right off I-87, the New York
Thruway. And you’ll need a car to get around to the myriad of destinations. So
if you don’t drive to New Paltz, either rent a car for yourself or share one
with friends. And yes, you can park right behind the dorm or in other nearby
spaces.
Air: At the suggestion of some of our past travelers, we are
leaving air travel up to you. That has several advantages. First you may need
extra flexibility, either arriving in the area earlier or staying later. Second
your frequent flyer or reward points may make it exceptionally economical. And
here is something new: New Paltz is just 25 miles north of Newburgh New York’s
Stewart International Airport. It's now part of the Port Authority's' airport
network and at this writing it's served by AirTran, Delta. jetBlue, Northwest,
Skybus and US Airways. However car rentals there are more costly than those at
the Port Authority's three New York City airports, all within one-and-a-half to
two hours driving time. And here’s a tip: reserve a car when you make your
plane or train reservations. The package will generally cost less than if you
purchase each separately.
Trains and Buses: If you’re traveling from New York, either
take the Metro North Hudson Line from Grand Central to Poughkeepsie (and we’ll
tell you about travel arrangements from there to New Paltz). Or take a 1 1/2
hour ride on a Trailways bus from New York’s Port Authority Bus Terminal to the
campus.
